Dr. Kamal Rungta, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Rungta obtained his MD in 1979 at the University of Toronto, Canada. He completed residency training in Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1983 and went on to qualify as an Accredited Clinical Polysomnographer in 1986 (evolved later to the American Board of Sleep Medicine). He served as a Co-Director of the UBC Psychiatry Residency Program between 1996 and 2002 during which time he was promoted to Clinical Professor of Psychiatry. He was appointed as the Interim Executive Dean, Education 2011-2012 and served as the Senior Advisor to the Executive Dean on Medical Education at UBC between 2012-2016. He was appointed Clinical Professor Emeritus in 2017.

Dr. Jaap N. Hamburger, MD, PhD

Dr. Hamburger is a Dutch-Canadian Interventional Cardiologist. He obtained his MD1 (summa cum laude, 1984), and his MD2 (1986) at the University of Amsterdam. In 1999, he obtained his PhD at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (‘New Aspects of Excimer Laser Coronary Angioplasty: Physical aspects and clinical results’). In 2000, he was appointed Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Hamburger is the author of fifty-five original papers and book chapters. In addition, he graduated from the Royal Sweelinck Conservatorium of Music, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with a soloist degree in piano, and is a Canadian Music Centre Associate Composer.

Dr. Adam Meneghetti,  MHSc, FRCSC

Dr. Meneghetti is an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Surgery. He is the Associate Division Head of General Surgery and the Program Director for the UBC Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship. He completed his fellowship training at the University of California San Francisco and his clinical interests include colorectal, foregut and oncology surgery. He also has interests in education and surgical training, and he is the past Program Director for the UBC general surgery residency program.

Dr. Sadia Raheez Qamar, MD

Dr. Sadia Raheez Qamar is currently doing a clinical radiology fellowship in Magnetic Resonance Imaging at The University of British Columbia (UBC) Hospital.  She did her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI), College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP), and afterward completed a clinical fellowship in Emergency and Trauma Radiology at Vancouver General Hospital, UBC. Dr. Qamar’s research focus is innovation in Radiology. Her exceptional award-winning work on Cinematic Rendering- a novel 3D reconstruction technique in diagnostic imaging- was presented at the International Conference of the Radiological Society of North America 2018, for which she received an advanced visualization trophy.

Dr. Kevin Shi, MD, CCFP(EM), FCFP

Dr. Kevin Shi, is currently an emergency physician at the Richmond General Hospital and an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of British Columbia.  He completed his medical degree and family practice residency at the University of Toronto, and his emergency medicine training at the University of Ottawa.  He enjoys participating in and facilitating simulation sessions at all levels of medical training and has introduced simulation into the Family Practice Residency Programs at St. Paul’s Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital.  He is the current Simulation Lead for both the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program in the MD Undergraduate Program and the St. Paul’s Family Practice Residency Program at UBC.

Dr. Arielle Elkrief,
MD

Dr. Arielle Elkrief, MD received her Doctorate of Medicine from Sherbrooke University in 2015 and is currently completing her specialty training in Medical Oncology at McGill University. In addition to her clinical work at the McGill University Health Centre and the Jewish General Hospital, she joined Dr. Bertrand Routy's laboratory at the University of Montreal Research Center (CRCHUM) to work on the impact of the composition of the gut microbiome on cancer therapy, specifically immune check-point inhibitors. She has been invited to give talks at the international level, and her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Narmin Kassam, MD

Dr. Kassam is Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta, Edmonton Zone (EZ), Deputy Clinical Department Head for Internal Medicine, and the Section Head for General Internal Medicine.  Her clinical practice encompasses in-patient and ambulatory consultative General Internal Medicine (GIM) and she supervises medical students and residents at various levels of training rotating on these services.

Dr. Mina Wesa, MD

Dr. Wesa completed her undergraduate and medical education at the University of British Columbia and graduated from the UBC OBGYN residency program in 2013. She completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the University of Ottawa. She is an active member of the OBGYN department at Royal Columbian Hospital. Her areas of interest include advanced laparoscopic surgery, fibroids, and endometriosis, to name a few.

Dr. Hugue Ouellette MD, FRCPC 

Dr. Ouellette an internationally recognized Musculoskeletal Radiologist working at Vancouver General Hospital where he is the Musculoskeletal Radiology Fellowship Director. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at University of British Columbia and has written several textbooks including the bestselling Clinical Radiology Made Ridiculously Simple. He was Associate Program Director of the Radiology Residency Training Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School where he worked for almost a decade as a Musculoskeletal Radiologist.

Dr. Amitai Ziv, MD, MHA

Prof. Amitai Ziv MD, MHA, is Director of the Rehabilitation Hospital at the Sheba Medical Center, Israel (since 2016), and Founder and Director of MSR - the Israel Center for Medical Simulation (since 2000). Since 2000 he has served as Deputy Director of the Sheba Medical Center, and from 2000 - 2017 he was Director of Patient Safety and Risk Management. Since 2017 he also serves as Director of Sheba's Allied Health Professionals.  Prof. Ziv is a Full Clinical Professor in Medical Education and since 2015 serves as the Associate Dean for Medical Education at Sheba Medical Center.

Dr. Suzanne Campbell, PhD, RN, IBCLC

Dr. Suzanne Campbell, PhD, Nursing is an Associate Professor, School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia. She is an innovator and early adopter of new pedagogy using technology to mentor faculty, students, and health care providers. She examines the use of innovative technology such as virtual and live simulation to teach clinical and non-technical skills such as health communication. Her clinical focus is reproductive social justice through the promotion and support of lactation and transition to new parenthood specifically for underserved populations.

Dr. Korol is a psychologist and CEO for Caera Technologies, Inc where she is developing an innovative platform that will allow people to access therapy services from their own home. In addition to creating content for the online courses, Dr. Korol is a sought out speaker on the topics of technology and mental health and a fierce advocate for increased access to mental health services.

Dr. Luis J Rosado-Lopez, MD

Dr. Rosado-Lopez is a cardiothoracic surgeon in Tucson, AZ with over 42 years of medical experience. He is affiliated with Carondelet Holy Cross Hospital & Health Center and Diamond Children’s Medical Center with specialties that include Vascular Surgery. Dr. Rosado-Lopez was Head of the cardiothoracic surgery section of the Northwest Medical Center in Arizona for 18 years and is currently practicing there as well as at TMC Healthcare- Tucson specializing in Thoracic & Cardiac Surgery.

Dr. Michael Janusz, MD, FRCSC

Dr. Janusz is the Director of Thoracic Aortic Surgery Service and is a Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia. He serves as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital where he specializes in major aortic disease, ventricular remodelling, valve-sparing aortic root replacement, spinal cord protection during descending and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, and thoracic aortic stents. 

Dr. Jia is the Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Royal College International of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She develops international medical education initiatives and collaborations with China. This includes the planning and delivery of the China Conference on Residency Education. Her portfolio includes standardization of residency training and evidence-based medicine. Her local medical education responsibilities include working as the Discipline Specific Site Leader at Surrey Memorial Hospital in the Pediatric Department at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada.

Dr. Ryan F. Paterson, MD, FRCSC

Dr. Paterson has part-time appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Urologic Sciences at Vancouver Hospital and Providence Health Care. He has a sub-specialized interest in the medical and surgical management of kidney stone disease, laparoscopic urologic surgery, and the surgical treatment of benign prostatic enlargement.

Dr. George Pachev, PhD

Dr. Pachev is the Director and a lecturer in the Educational and Assessment office of Educational Support and Development in the Faculty of Medicine, UBC. He brings to the field of health professions education a strong background in research methodology, statistics, testing, and educational measurement.

Dr. Panton is the President of the North Pacific Surgical Association and the Governor of the American College of Surgeons in British Columbia. Dr. Panton practiced as a community surgeon joining the General Surgery staff at the University of British Columbia Hospital in 1999 becoming the Interim Surgical Director of that site in 2002.  He was cross-appointed at the Vancouver Acute Hospital in 2003 and was the Head of the Division of General Surgery at both hospital sites from 2003 to 2017. He was the Head of the Division of General Surgery at the University of British Columbia from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2017.

Dr. Susan Brien, MD, MEd, CSPQ, FRCSC, CPE

Dr. Brien joined the Royal College in 2007 and has held many positions including Registrar, Associate Director of Professional Affairs, Director of Innovation, Research and Simulation, Director of Practice, Performance and Innovation, as well her current role of Director of Practice and Systems Innovation (October 2013). This office leverages our strengths in health policy, scholarship and innovative simulation-based training to influence change at the practice level and more generally, in the Canadian health system.

Dr. Richard Smith, BA, MA, PhD

Dr. Richard Smith has over two decades of academic and directorial experience at Simon Fraser University. A professor at the School of Communication at SFU for over fifteen years, he has also served as Director of SFU’s Centre for Policy Research on Science and Technology (CPROST) for the past ten years. 

Dr. Carlos Pellegrini, MD, FACS, FRCSI

Dr. Pellegrini is the Henry N. Harkins Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington. He is a world-renowned surgeon in esophageal diseases. He has been a Director of the American Board of Surgery, President of the American Surgical Association, and is the immediate past President of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Andrew Padmos BA, MD, FRCPC, FACP

Dr. Padmos joined the Royal College as the new CEO on September 1, 2006. He comes to the Royal College from Halifax, N.S., where from 1998 he was Commissioner of Cancer Care Nova Scotia, head of the Cancer Care Program at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Associate Dean for cancer programs in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University and Vice-President of research, academic affairs and quality for Capital District Health Authority. 

Dr. Richard Reznik

Since his first faculty appointment at the University of Toronto in 1987, Dr. Reznick has been active in both colorectal surgery and research in medical education. He was instrumental in developing a performance-based examination, which is now used for medical licensure in Canada.  He ran a research program on assessment of technical competence for surgeons and supervised a fellowship program in surgical education.

Mr. Nudelman is a successful serial entrepreneur currently based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Prior to immigrating to Canada, Mr. Nudelman had over 30 businesses in his native country of Brazil. In Canada, Andre continued to pursue his entrepreneurial ambition and would go on to open and become part of multiple successful companies including: Maple Bear Schools Latin America, Acecla Technology, Addexo Consulting, and countless others.

Dr. Nicolaou is a Professor of Radiology, Vice-Chair of the Undergraduate Education and Continuing Professional Development for the UBC Department of Radiology, Head of the General Division of the Department of Radiology and the Director of Emergency/Trauma Radiology at Vancouver General Hospital.

Jon Festinger

Jon Festinger, Q.C. is a Vancouver, British Columbia based counsel and educator. He is a Professor of Professional Practice at Simon Fraser University and a faculty member of the Centre for Digital Media. He is also Honorary Industry Professor in the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London.
Professor Festinger has taught a wide variety of law courses relating to intellectual property, communications, journalism, sports and business over more than 25 years at the law school at UBC, now known as the Allard School of Law, as well as teaching at various times at the UBC Graduate School of Journalism, the Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law and the University of Victoria Faculty of Law.

Dr. Abdulaziz Alkanhal, MD, MSc.

Dr. AlKanhal is a faculty member in General Surgery at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is a founding member of CanHealth International, and also a member of the scientific committee of Saudi Society for Simulation in Healthcare. He earned his Master of Science in the field of Surgical Simulation and Education from the Centre of Excellence for Simulation Education and Innovation at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. He has a special interest in the innovation of low and high fidelity simulators, psychometric skills measures and virtual reality motion analysis.

Dr. Ezz is the Director of Clinical Simulation Administration at the University of British Columbia. He is also the Director of Clinical Skills & Simulation Administration for the King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Ezz has worked as the Course Director & Training Center Faculty for the American Heart Association as well as a Coordinator and Instructor for the American College of Surgeons.

Evangelos Georgiou MD., Ph.D., is professor of Medical Physics at the Athens University Medical School, Greece. He is the founder and Director of the Athens University Medical Simulation Centre, a fully accredited Institute from the American College of Surgeons (ACS). MPLSC collaborates with several centers, including CESEI (Vancouver), Karolinska Medical School (Stockholm), Imperial College (London), King Fahad Medical City (Riyadh) and Plovdiv Medical School (Bulgaria). 

Dr. Rukhsana Zuberi, MBBS, FCPS-MED, MHPE

Dr Zuberi, Professor of Family Medicine, Aga Khan University (AKU) has a joint appointment in the Department for Educational Development (DED). She is a graduate of King Edward Medical College, Fellow of Medicine, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP), and has a Masters in Health Professions Education (MHPE), University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. As Associate Dean Education, AKU (2005-2015), Professor Zuberi chaired the Task Force and Curriculum Committee for the MBBS curricular renewal planning and implementation, respectively. She initiated a Master of Health Professions Education at AKU, and chaired the planning and commissioning groups for the Center for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME), where she was the founding Interim Director (2015-2016).

Dr. Asmatullah Naebkhil, MD

Dr. Naebkhil is the Professor of Internal Medicine at Kateb University in Kabul, Afghanistan. He is also the Founder and Former President of Kabul Medical University’s Heart Institute for 10 years- the first ever heart center in Afghanistan (a charitable, non profit & academic institution). Prior to this, Dr. Naebkhil was a Director for Kabul Medical University’s Cardiac Research Centre. As a Canadian citizen, Dr. Naebkhil has long term academic work in Canada working at St. Michael’s Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, Regina General Hospital & Windsor Regional Hospital, amongst others. He is a member of the Scientific Board for CanHealth International and his work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals.
